Acrobats of God AW 2010-11

August 27, 2010

I was pleasantly surprised to find the Acrobats of God AW 2010-11 lookbook in my email yesterday. The shoes for Fall/Winter are tougher than in their previous collection, but still feature the elastic bandaging we saw before. As a new brand, launched just this year, they’re doing pretty well and for good reason, their shoes are beautiful.

My favorite is the middle pair with the wooden wedge. For more info, check out their website.

Sometimes I wish I was a kid again. Summers were almost excruciatingly long, composed of woods and lakes and beaches and camp and foraging and friends and boys and gossip and ice cream and growing up. Now summer means working, with a BBQ and a beach day peppered in. And its fast, so fast that it’s over before you even realize it was summer. If it wasn’t for the painfully hot weather in NYC, I would have no idea. One of my favorite memories of summer has always been back to school shopping. From about 8 years old to 13, I was away every summer. I barely saw my parents, brother and sister, and basically came back from camp right before school was about to start.

Back to school shopping was always hurried, rummaging through the already torn apart aisles of various stores, looking for binders and pens and pencils and folders that were deemed cool by that year’s standards. Shopping for clothing was basically the same, I always had just a weekend to go before school started and would run around various stores with my sister attempting to find things between the ripped apart shelves of stores that had been exhausted by other preteen girls weeks before. This might not seem like a good time to you, but it was everything to me. After spending over two months away, being able to hang out with my older sister was amazing. Although looking back now, I was a huge brat when it came to picking out clothing. Luckily, she put up with me!

I might not be a kid anymore (or even close) but a little pre-fall shopping fun can still be had. The number one fall purchase I need to make at this point is a good pair of flat boots. Every time I get a pair of boots I basically wear them out to the point that they can’t even be fixed if I took them to a cobbler. So come fall, I’m on the hunt for a good pair of stomping boots.

As a teen, docs were my go to. When I first purchased them, they were so stiff I got blisters every time I wore them. I tried everything to break them in, I even had my dad run them over with his car ( I’m not joking). It took a while but when they finally did get broken in, they were like butter. Seriously, they molded to my feet.

Now that I’m in my 20’s, I’m looking for something with a doc martin feel without the chunkiness of actual doc martins (docs are not too appropriate for an office job).  Maybe this will be the year I don’t wear one pair of boots until they’re literally falling apart.

The JC’s are cute, leather and affordable (hello sale!). I give Jeffrey Campbell a hard time about some of the company’s ways, but I still support the fact that his shoes are affordable and fairly well made. I wish that he wouldn’t copy-cat some of his designs, but it’s not a deal breaker for me..yet. It may seem hypocritical and maybe it is, but in the end these boots are $150 versus another designer whose similar shoes may sell for $350 and up ($1200 Golden Goose anyone?)

Bernhard Willhelm x Camper boots. Ah, these boots. Completely and disgustingly out of my price range, but I love them. They remind me of boots someone from the movie Hackers would wear, or a club kid partying it up at limelight circa 1993.

Yeah, that’s all I can come up with. It’s time to take this search offline, and get myself into a store, rummaging the aisles like it’s 1999 and I’m 13 years old.

Pony Loafers

July 1, 2010

I know it’s just the beginning of Summer, but I’m already looking forward to shopping for Fall shoes. Maybe it’s because I’m not the biggest fan of the overwhelming NYC heat, or maybe it’s just because I love to wear boots. Or maybe it’s because I like to romanticize the fall. Either way, I found these Matt Bernson pony loafers on Urban Outfitters’ first look for their Fall collection, and I’m in love. I’m not really a loafer kind of gal, but these straddle the line of punk, so I’m down. Any way that I can throw some edge into my work attire, I am all for it.

I also have a slight obsession with cheetah printed shoes. If done right, it’s just so rockabilly punk. I might own a little too many cheetah printed things, but no worries, I don’t wear them together like some crazy cat lady.

Ingrid Zamboni’s Ceramic Shoes at the Ward-Nasse Gallery in Soho.

Close Up:

Strolling through Soho on Sunday after an amazing brunch at Bondi Road, my friends and I passed the Ward-Nasse gallery where these amazing ceramic shoes are being displayed in the window. I didn’t have my camera with me (I know, silly me!) so I didn’t get any snaps, but the gallery’s blog had these pictures which, although fantastic, don’t even do these shoes justice. If you’re in Soho, be sure to pass by the gallery, you won’t regret it.

P.S. Love Bondi Road, but I did learn a very important life lesson. Even if you are absolutely obsessed with Oysters, do not subject yourself to an Oyster Shooter. Ever. Seriously, heed my advice, learn from my mistakes. While the components of an Oyster Shooter are awesome (a Bloody Mary and an Oyster) together, in shot form, this will prove to be the worst idea of your life.

This might be old news, but I just noticed these.

I’m usually down with Jeffrey Campbell, but this is just a little too blatant.

Acne

Swedish brand Acne are always pushing limits with their shoes (i.e the height of their atacomas) and these nail heels are no exception. While I think they’re interesting and oh so industrial which I love, I’m still not totally into them. Not surprisingly, while these are out now,  I haven’t heard much buzz about them, unlike the atacomas that were literally everywhere last season. Either they’re still building a following, or most people feel the same way about them as I do.

Robbing Old Ladies

April 13, 2010

New Shit New Shit!

I’m really feeling some of the new arrivals at Pixie Market. Someone take me on a Spring shopping spree please and thank you.

The shoes are $125 and $140 and both are leather which makes them pretty affordable for their quality. I’m def. thinking about getting one of the pairs or hell, both of the pairs. I’m really feeling them. At around $250, the vest is a lot less affordable for me  and at nearly $450, the dress is definitely not affordable right now unless I hit the lotto or rob an old rich lady as she’s walking down Madison with her puppy smoking a cigarette. That way, both of her hands are full and it makes things a lot easier..J/k, I’m just joshing you guys.

Available at  Bergdorf Goodman , among other places, these Ann Demeulemeester beasts cost way too much money, too much like rent money too much, like a vacation to Italy too much…Basically unaffordable for most of us unless you happen to be an octopus loving teenage mid-west shoe blogger, then you probably already own both of these pairs. I’m not hatin’, I’m just sayin’.

Let’s Trade Shoes

March 22, 2010

So Sunday night was the Season Premiere of one of my favorite shows, Breaking Bad. The show follows Walter White, chemistry teacher turned Meth maker and his partner Jesse, a so called “delinquent” who used to be one of his students. Walt gets into Meth making when he learns he has cancer and wants to leave enough for his family to be taken care of. He does learn his cancer has gone into remission, however, by this time everything in his life has fallen apart.

Anyway, as much as I love Breaking Bad, this post really isn’t about that. What this post is about, is the fact that the season premiere featured two Mexican gangsters, border hopping on their way to kill Walter (he basically got their cousin killed, a huge player in the meth industry). These guys are serious, they don’t talk, they’re scary as hell and basically kill anyone that gets into their way.

But the baddest thing about these guys? Their silver tipped rattlesnake skull cowboy boots:

breakingbadskullcowboyboots Lets Trade Shoes

I NEED these.
