MGMT was the last concert I had tickets to, time to start looking for some new ones for the Fall.

Last Wednesday, I went to one of the best concerts of my entire life. Holy Ghost followed by Hercules & Love Affair followed by Hot Chip. Everything about the show was amazing, including the people I was with. We danced all night, I don’t think there was a moment where we were still. I was engulfed by the heavy smoke around me. Although we were outside, Central Park Summer Stage felt like a tiny, smoky, dark club. Although I don’t smoke, and smoke usually bothers me (not ethically or morally, but I literally start to get a headache) somehow, this night, nothing mattered. I felt great and danced my ass off and by the end of the night I was drenched in sweat as was everyone around me. Everyone left that concert with a smile on their faces. Every band was better than the last and Hot Chip absolutely killed it. However, as the post is titled, this is about Hercules & Love Affair.

The musical project, or love child as I like to think of it, of DJ Andy Butler, Hercules & Love Affair is comprised of Andy and Kim Ann Foxman, and of a rotating cast of characters. The band has a stage presence like I have never seen, it’s a mix of electro-dance-80’s-disco-underground-club-crazy-ness, it’s just perfect. Because I suck at ever bringing my camera anywhere, I am borrowing these pictures from the concert from Boom Boom Chik (Hope you don’t mind, but if you do, let me know!)

Also, since this is primarily a fashion blog (blah blah blah), let’s not forget to mention how adorable they all are and how much we love their style!

So Bush is back! I haven’t heard any of their new stuff yet, but I have (coincidentally) been listening to their old stuff nonstop, and lo and behold I hear they have reunited. They were one of my favorite 90’s bands, and still are one of my favorite bands in general. I can’t really listen to too many bands at one time, it’s just this thing that I do, I get obsessed with one band at a time (or re-obsessed in this case). So basically, all I’ve listened for the past month, and all I will listen to for probably at least another month, will be Bush, peppered with an odd song from another band here and there (like one other song a week, to mix it up). I don’t know why, but it’s kind of the way I am with clothes, books, movies. I get really obsessed with a pair of shoes and wear them non-stop till they’re completely worn out on the bottom. I’m trying to stop, because it’s both bad for your feet and your shoes. Anyway, enough with my compulsions, check Bush out:

Goodnight Work Week

May 14, 2010

I’m going to start doing music posts on Fridays. Goodbye annoying work week, hello pretty dancetastic musical weekend. I don’t even mind taking work home for the weekends if I can do it outside in the park  (even though NYC weather has been ridiculously crappy for the past week, I’m sure this little dream will come to fruition soon). And what better way to start out the weekend than with some lovely music?

Live Through This

May 10, 2010

After my little hiatus, I’m back! Back with plenty of new posts, a new banner and a slightly changed up look to the blog. The little break was good for my head, to get things sorted out and to get re-inspired. So, with further ado, my comeback Hole post:

I have always been a fan of Courtney Love; clean Courtney, cracked out Courtney, crazy Courtney. I had the privilege of seeing Hole perform on April 28 at Terminal 5 and it was amazeballs (I was also recently alerted to the fact that I use amazeballs in my everyday vernacular and after much thought and inner contemplation, I realized I’m okay with that. And with my friends ridiculing me. Whatevs guys, I’m a fourteen year old at heart).

Anyway, the show was brilliant. Aside from the band (also, I mean, is it really Hole? No original members except Court…but really, she’s the fuckin heart of it so does it matter?) So, yes, aside from them rushing the set, and there really being no Courtney Love antics, it was a really fantastic show. She sang some old stuff, spoke coherently, and showed up. Basically, that’s what I was looking for.

Anyway, let’s talk some Hole fashion! I bought a great Hole Cardigan, check check check it out:

Up close and gold.

I also bought a Hole tee. I’m usually too drunk and tired by the end of a concert to buy anything, but this time my friends and I made it a point to stick around and get some merch. Definitely a good choice, that cardigan is making my life. I love the weird looks I get at work when my coworkers notice my cardigan and ask why I’m rocking Hole. Ummm, because why the hell wouldn’t I rock Hole? Wouldn’t you?

Thursday Mid-Morning Music.

This shit is like a dream, a lovely dream beating down on your shitty day job that keeps you inside and away from wonderful dreamy dream places during early April heat waves.

Amazing indie- dance band from Russia. They’re adorable, and although I speak Russian, you don’t have to. They’re pure goodness.

Check them out here
