Transvestite Part Two

June 28, 2010

In a previous post, I wrote about my new obsession with Transvestite jewerly but could not find information for the brand anywhere online. After making a brief appearance on Pixie Market (which sold out very quickly) it seemed to vanish.  I was writing fan fiction for a jewelry line that didn’t seem to exist. I searched for it, as did many of my wonderful readers, but to no avail. I always thought my internet ninja skills were black belt, but this whole situation made me doubt myself.

But did I give up! Well, yes, a little bit. But apparently, the universe did not. Guess who followed me on Twitter? That’s right, maybe I could not find them, but they sure found me!

Transvestite, established in 2005 in Japan, features Men’s and Women’s clothing and accessories. Because I am a little crazy, I translated all of their tweets and news on their website to try to figure them out a bit more. Of course, translating tweets leaves me with more questions then answers, so I leave you with some amazing pictures below instead of my rambles about how into them I am.

This is from a “test shoot” so hopefully we’ll be seeing more of their jewerly and accessories in addition to the clothing. The clothing is pretty dope though, it centers around monochromatic colors, greys and whites and blacks, with an edge. Perfect easy to wear pieces, just throw on and look ill. Looking forward to hearing more from this brand, now that it isn’t just a figment of my imagination.

p.s. I know, I was gone. Now I’m back. I’ll try to keep it consistent.

From the Machine de Terre collection, Aesa agate jewelry. If you’ve read my blog before, you know I have an affinity towards agate, but only when it’s raw and vibrant. I’m really feeling these necklaces, and it doesn’t hurt that they’re made in Brooklyn. Brooklyn love!

Transvestite Jewelry

April 6, 2010

Sometimes I come across some shit on the internet that I like but cannot find anywhere except one place and it annoys the hell out of me. Here is one such case. These earrings are by a brand called “Transvestite” hailing from Japan. Maybe my spytastic googling skills aren’t as good as I think they are because I can’t find anything about this brand other than three items up for sale on Pixie Market. Anyone want to help?

Hailing from my lovely hometown of Brooklyn, New York, friends Jill Martinelli and Sabine Le Guyader started Lady Grey Jewelry after meeting in College and earning themselves some very cool degrees in metals ( seriously, “hey you, what do you major in?”  “I major in metal.” Amazing). Anyway, I’m seriously in love with their jewelry and their amazing medieval like aesthetic, and of course, as usual, the fact that they are producing these beauties in Brooklyn. Gotta represent my hometown. And plus, any moral code I follow is straight out of Biggie’s songs. Remember kids- spread love, it’s the Brooklyn way.

Staring At The Sea

March 31, 2010

I’m already dreaming of warm Summer days filled with barbecues and weekend road trips, sandals and outdoor concerts, beer halls and Sunday Brunches, picnics and flowery dresses, and bubbles and fireworks and burlesque and ocean air. I dream about the ocean. I miss its smell in the morning, the sea gulls and frothy white waves, the untouched morning sand, the untouched morning sea. Last summer I avoided the ocean like the plague, avoided that whole part of my life, a past life, a different time. But this summer will be different, I’m looking forward to checking out Coney Island after a year of avoiding it. I’ve heard this season the local businesses are doing some new and amazing things. Coney Island will be alive again.

Jeepers Creepers,  Time for Spring! Time for Spring I Say!

That’s from my favorite cartoon from 1936, which was the first cartoon ever directed by Hanna Barbera. I had it on VHS and I remember watching it on repeat when I was a kiddie. Seriously, it will put you in a great Spring mood.  Watch it here.

Anyway, with it being officially Spring and all, I wanted to show you some things that I’m excited about wearing, some things that I’m excited about getting, and some things I wish I had this Spring but I’ll never be able to afford. To dream!

Bag

0f3dfca92b3148510400d684fa994a2b Theres a place Id like to go, somewhere out west

This Alexander Wang bag has everything I want in a bag for Spring. It’s small enough to go from day to night, which usually happens come Spring time. I get out of work so late I don’t really have time to run home, change clothes and change bags, and it’s seriously not fun to go out with a giant purse. This, on the other hand, has some perfectly placed compartments, it’s long enough to be swung across the body while you’re dancing, and the wash is fantastic for Spring. It would go with everything.

Unfortunately, this bag goes into the category of things “I’d love to own for Spring, but cannot afford”. Unless it goes on major discount, $725 is just a little too steep right now. (Anyone with a spare they don’t want, you know where to send it)

I bought a very similar version of these recently to wear this Spring. The lens is green like these, but I think my frame is more gold then yellow (or maybe they’re the same, but it’s hard to tell in this picture). Mine are absolutely huge and I love them. I was visiting a friend in Fort Lee, NJ, and we went to this amazing mall. Growing up in NYC, we don’t really have malls at all and it’s a total novelty for me. I’m not even kidding, I only get to go to a mall like once a year (at most?) but I love them. This particular mall was fantastic, filled with Louis Vuitton, Betsey Johnson, Barneys, Saks, Bloomingdales ..Seriously, it’s like a mall for the rich and famous. Crazy. Anyway, I really couldn’t afford much, but I needed a pair of sunglasses and being that Ray Ban’s are pretty affordable, I went for them. (I also tried on Carrera’s which are amazing looking and priced well, but they didn’t work that well for me.) Anyway, it took about 50 pairs before I found these, since for some weird reason every single other pair other then the pair I bought had tiny lenses. Strange! Anyway, love these. So, obviously these are in the “I’m excited to wear this Spring” category.

Shoes

Greece Flats Animal - Women, SHOES - Surface2Air online store These Greece Flats by Surface to Air in Animal are fantastic.   They’re adorable and judging by the bottom, super comfy to run around the city in. I could see myself getting so much use out of these.

These aren’t cheap, but I think they’re worth it. So far I’ve only seen them on the Surface to Air online shop, but hopefully I’ll see them around NYC.

If I can find these in NYC anytime soon, or maybe I’ll think about ordering them off of the site. I’m throwing them under “Things I’m excited about getting this Spring”.

I bought a few Vincent Longo lipsticks off of Hautelook a little while ago for two reasons. One being that his red lipsticks are absolutely the most fabulous, they are seriously some of the best reds. Reason two was that they were $8!! For real, $8?! Yeah, I bought 3. Red might be serious, and I know people love light colours for Spring, but I think a good red is fantastic for Spring.

Scarves

f382fa9598a7ec002244512c49b2fae0 Theres a place Id like to go, somewhere out west

I’ve written about my love of scarves before and I’m so excited to finally be able to break them out and wear them. Of course I could have worn them this past winter, but it just seems so much more like a Spring accessory to me. I don’t own this Alexander Mcqueen scarf, however, I have a similar one with skulls that’s in a diamond shape and a little thicker, I think I prefer it. If I come into a little money somehow (lottery? rob a bank? whatevs), I’ll def. be buying another Alexander Mcqueen scarf to wear this Spring.

I’m throwing this into all categories, “I’m excited to wear this Spring” because I have one Alexander Mcqueen scarf already, “Things I’m excited about getting this Spring” because if I run into money this will be def. be purchased, and “I’d love to own for Spring, but cannot afford” because most likely I won’t be coming into extra cash.

Vests

I really love this short jean vest from Top Shop. I’m totally feeling vests in general for Spring, actually, I’m always feeling vests for any time of the year, but punk jean vests circa 1977 are perfect for Spring. A little while back I was on Rocker Repro’s blog and saw some of the cutest jean vests as style inspiration. I’m thinking about getting this one and throwing some studs on it.

Leads Me To Temptation

March 3, 2010

What do I do when I find beautiful things lurking in the depths of the internets that I can not possibly afford even if I sold my soul? I put them on this little blog to torture you guys. Just so I’m not alone in this, of course.

I’m feeling the double finger ring more then ever right now. For a while I was convinced they were uncomfortable and avoided them, but a chance encounter with the crystal beauty below (which only cost me $20!) changed my mind. Then I met this second ring, representing Brooklyn and looking pretty hard, and I was more convinced then ever that double finger rings are both comfortable and incredible looking on. Unfortunately, after I modeled the rings, I decided to have a little photo shoot on my counter, and well, the following happened.

Time to devise a clever plan to get them back.
