Apologies all around, I was very bad about keeping up my week of Japanese brands. So, in an effort to right a wrong, I’ll be sporadically posting some more this week. We begin Monday morning with Mista Mista, a fabulous Japanese brand with a very versatile and quite androgynous aw10 Men’s collection. From what I gathered online, it looks like Mista Mista does women’s clothing as well, however, their website only showcases the men’s collection (unless that’s the women’s collection being modeled by a man, which is entirely possible).
First of all, can we just talk about the model for minute? Like a love child of Billy Idol and Sid Vicious. He is fabulous.
One day I’ll accrue enough Vacation days and save enough money and go to Japan and meet all of the amazing designers behind these brands and go into debt buying a million pieces from each. Le sigh, for now I watch from afar.
Earlier in the year, I became really obsessed with Australian Fashion and dedicated a whole week of posts to established as well as up and coming Australian designers. Beginning with one of my favorites, Romance Was Born, I couldn’t stop posting different brands based out of Australia. The thing is, that’s kind of how I am about everything. If I love a pair of shoes, those shoes are getting worn every day. When I’m listening to music, I’m not listening to a playlist most of the time; I’m just listening to one band for weeks. So, it should come as no surprise that after looking into some Japanese blogs and clothing brands this week, my mind just could not focus on anything else.
So, let’s begin our little Japanese adventure with Dissteady Own Philosophy. See, the problem here is, I don’t speak Japanese. As with many foreign designers and brands, I cannot understand a word of their website. I would try to translate it, but it won’t allow me to do the whole copy/paste and translate thing, so I’m stuck trying to figure out as much as I can from random words in English. So, what do I know? I know Dissteady is based out of Tokyo and features both women’s and men’s clothing. Their website just has some pieces from the women’s collection, however, some google spy skills found a bunch of men’s tees online as well. Although I don’t know too much about them yet, just looking the photos of their clothing and their other inspirational images gives a pretty good overview about their aesthetic and what they’re basically about.
Once I find out more I’ll update this post. If you know anything about them, leave it in the comments.
Go to their website, there is a wonderful opening montage of models and Cigarettes and playboy and beautiful clothing and dinosaur skeleton sketches. You would have to watch it a couple of times to really know what the hell is thrown in there. I’m really into these looks, nothing really very new, but beautiful nonetheless. The flower print is so dark, I want to wear it while sipping tea out of a goblet in a haunted castle. That is my dream, to one day be rich enough to go off and buy a secluded haunted castle and fill it with beautiful things and have parties where people are confused as to what century they are in by the end of the night. Either that, or be poor but live in a little country house filled with vintage finds and sew and knit and bake all day. Or I could forget all of that and be a nomad, traveling and wandering and experiencing things most people only dream of. Whatever happens, mostly, I just want to be happy.
Sometimes I forget about John Galliano’s brilliance and it takes something like his recent Men’s SS 2011 runway to remind me what an incredible mind this man has. Every season, he delivers collections so on point, so Galliano, and somehow, so fresh. This recent collection evokes memories of childhood for me. Memories of being at a single digit age and discovering Galliano in old Vogues, and discovering Charlie Chaplin at the same time. I have a great memory of being quite small and dragged to a very, very long movie about Charlie Chaplin’s life by my parents. I couldn’t really stay interested because of its length, but I still remember thinking Charlie Chaplin was such an amazing character and performer. Using Chaplin as inspiration, Galliano’s collection is ridiculous, and beyond the collection, his runway shows are always incredibly theatrical.
But really, check out the video for the full effect:
In a previous post, I wrote about my new obsession with Transvestite jewerly but could not find information for the brand anywhere online. After making a brief appearance on Pixie Market (which sold out very quickly) it seemed to vanish. I was writing fan fiction for a jewelry line that didn’t seem to exist. I searched for it, as did many of my wonderful readers, but to no avail. I always thought my internet ninja skills were black belt, but this whole situation made me doubt myself.
But did I give up! Well, yes, a little bit. But apparently, the universe did not. Guess who followed me on Twitter? That’s right, maybe I could not find them, but they sure found me!
Transvestite, established in 2005 in Japan, features Men’s and Women’s clothing and accessories. Because I am a little crazy, I translated all of their tweets and news on their website to try to figure them out a bit more. Of course, translating tweets leaves me with more questions then answers, so I leave you with some amazing pictures below instead of my rambles about how into them I am.
This is from a “test shoot” so hopefully we’ll be seeing more of their jewerly and accessories in addition to the clothing. The clothing is pretty dope though, it centers around monochromatic colors, greys and whites and blacks, with an edge. Perfect easy to wear pieces, just throw on and look ill. Looking forward to hearing more from this brand, now that it isn’t just a figment of my imagination.
p.s. I know, I was gone. Now I’m back. I’ll try to keep it consistent.
I know many of you have seen this collection before, but I think everyone needs to be reminded of how wonderful the glorious cosmic universe is. These prints are so bright and brilliant, it’s like the clothes have little LED lights going through them ( do they???). The styling Assembly did is fantastic too and fits in perfectly with the collection. Although, I’m not sure how a flying fox that hides faces goes with the cosmicness of the collection, but it works. He’s kind of like Jesus of the fox world, except instead of walking on water he floats through the air and walks on people’s throats…Yeah, maybe not.
Lindsey Thornburg was born in Aspen, Colorado, so it comes as no surprise that she gears towards cold weather apparel with her namesake label. Her cloaks are beautiful, as are her dresses, and the photography on her site is especially amazing; a mixture of dark enchantment, hipster Aztec design and fabulous 70’s gothic flair. Love it.
Also, check out Lindsey herself:
AMAZING
Check out her site here for more amazing photography and her beautiful dresses and cloaks.
Already over the bright colors of Spring wear ( or maybe I’m just in a bad mood today?), Fall’s pretty but dark attire looks way more promising. Check out Claude Maus’s fantastically dark collection.
P.S. Apologies for the lack of posts/underwhelming posts this week. I’ve been taking care of some personal issues and have not had time/energy this week to devote to the blog, which really has only left me feeling worse! So, this weekend shall be a crazy photo taking adventure of monstrous proportions. I always promise pictures of my apartment, my jewelry, outings, etc. but I swear I shall deliver after this weekend.
I’m really feeling some of the new arrivals at Pixie Market. Someone take me on a Spring shopping spree please and thank you.
I Kamara -Crochet lace up sandals
Horace-Leather black vest
Martin Lamothe-Nautical silk kaftan dress
Red buckle wedge
The shoes are $125 and $140 and both are leather which makes them pretty affordable for their quality. I’m def. thinking about getting one of the pairs or hell, both of the pairs. I’m really feeling them. At around $250, the vest is a lot less affordable for me and at nearly $450, the dress is definitely not affordable right now unless I hit the lotto or rob an old rich lady as she’s walking down Madison with her puppy smoking a cigarette. That way, both of her hands are full and it makes things a lot easier..J/k, I’m just joshing you guys.
Straight out of the Lower East Side, (but I think that’s obvious) Sophomore’s Spring collection is filled with versatile and simple, but still super cute, pieces. A little 80’s, a little 70’s, a lot of awesome.
