My nails look like chipped shit.
I go way too long between manicures and I’m lazy as all hell to do my own nails. Plus, I kind of suck at it.
Luckily for me, I recently bought some kick ass nail colors by Illamasqua at Sephora that go on pretty neatly and nicely and stay on for at least a few days chip free. This shit is the bomb/ da bomb depending upon whether you want to bring it back to the 90’s or not.
Check these hot to trot colours out. Rampage on the left, rare on the right (and they basically look like that in real life). I’ve yet to do rare but it’s amazing, like a neon yellow with just the right amount of green tint, so good.
Speaking of, Da Bomb happened to be the name of my pseudo “club” in middle school. We had a magazine and ID cards and only let select members of our school into our club. We were a bunch of underage assholes. Those were the days. ( Luckily I have grown out of being an underage asshole into an of-age sweetheart, not to be confused with Sammi sweetheart of the Jersey Shore. That girl is a total bitch).
No, scratch that, it does not. I’m just anticipating my upcoming 90’s themed party and of course, what 90’s themed party would it be if we didn’t kick in some flannel and Nirvana? Of course, I’ll be switching it up with Sublime, Ace of Base, Sneaker Pimps, La Bouche, Prodigy and lots lots more. Love 90’s themed parties, except instead of smelling like teen spirit, I’d much prefer to smell like one of the following scents:

My absolute favorite, I’ve been using this forever, perfect daytime perfume.

Seriously intoxicating, it’s pretty strong so it’s great for going out at night.
New fave, a few of my friends have it and it’s amazing. I haven’t bought it yet, but I’m def. going to asap.
You can get 2 out of 3 at Sephora, but I love browsing places like Fragrance Shop, the perfume is less than half the price!
A while back, while reading a blog post by the lovely Wendy Brandes, I discovered the glamorous world of Minx nail art. I was pretty sold and smitten, but at around $55, it just seemed too expensive to get on a random afternoon. Then, last week, another post popped up on Wendy Brandes‘ blog and with my birthday coming up, I knew I had to do it. So, I booked an appointment not far from Medusa Salon ( the cutest little place, it’s adorned with pin-up girls, and my stylist is a tattooed singer in a Rockabilly band) where I was getting my hair done after.
The salon I booked my appointment at was pretty cute and the girls inside were super sweet. I picked out the leopard print Minx, and once I was done, my manicurist was ready for me. The entire process took about 45 minutes but it wasn’t always smooth sailing. A few times, I had to ask her to fix little bits that she was leaving at the end of my nail, and when she told me I was done, I noticed I had an air bubble on one nail, and another was completely crooked. However, she was really nice about fixing it.
Now, here is the problem. Although I have read that Minx can stay on up to two weeks, I’m not naive and I know that isn’t going to happen. However, on the Minx site, it says that the nails should stay 4-5 days. My nails started lifting that same day, and by the next day were looking pretty bad. I still have the Minx on (I’m on day 3) but I’m probably going to have to peel them off, as two of my nails are looking pretty beat. I really don’t know if it’s the product or the manicurist, but I’m leaning towards the manicurist as it didn’t seem to be going right during the actual manicure. I don’t think I’d do it again as the price is a little steep for a manicure that might only last a night, but it was definitely fun to have on my birthday and I did get quite a few compliments.
First day.
Second day, it’s hard to tell because the first nail is pressed down, but it’s totally peeling off.
How did that get in there? It’s my antique Russian garnet cocktail ring that I got for my birthday..Thanks L+M!
Look at that height!
xo.
