Rather than going full-on yellow, adding splashes throughout your outfit can make a muted ensemble more fall-friendly. A yellow cardigan layered over dark jeans and a neutral shirt, an unexpected pop of mustard in a structured clutch, in bangles, or on your nails, a tank layered under a printed cardigan or jacket, a mustard scarf thrown on top of any outfit; these are all great and subtle bursts of mustard yellow.

Going bolder is easy for the brave (or less pale): a mustard jacket paired with muted colors is a perfect fall outfit, a really bright yellow shoe adds punch to any outfit, and a mustard dress can be much less in-your-face if it has feminine details, like lace, frills, or a floaty hemline.

However it’s worn, mustard is an amazing fall color that can add character to any outfit, but always remember to style it your way and have fun with it! (And any other color!)

How will you spend Independence Day?

Of course, I don’t want to spend very much on something I’m not even sure I will wear. At the same time, I do want to find something that will make me, at the very least, want to wear it. So, after scouring the internet for ideas, I’ve come up with these possible options.

At $80, the All Saints Felipe Hat isn’t cheap, but with leather and brass details, it may be worth it.

At $45, the Leather Plait Cowboy Hat from Top Shop is a bit more reasonable and looks very light.

From H&M, these three hats are definitely the most affordable. Although H&M’s website does not list prices, they are most likely under $20, probably between $10 and $15 a piece. Although perhaps not as nice as the All Saints hat, an H&M hat might be a good way to gauge whether or not I’ll actually wear a hat, period. At that point, it would make more sense to invest in a quality one. Or at least that’s what I say now, there’s a pretty nice Burberry straw hat on Saks.com (that I’ll buy in my dreams with monopoly money).

Moo Piyasombatkul’s debut collection of sunglasses, “Baroque Eyes” mixes modern frames with ornate details. The porcelain embellished collection is the first from Moo, a graduate of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, located in London. Hailing from Bangkok, Thailand, Moo lists Marcel Wanders’s idea of “New Antique” as her inspiration to create from the past. The collection debuted almost a year ago, but has recently arrived in stores in the US. At an average price of $500, these pretty little frames will never have the pleasure of sitting atop my nose. Their loss…am I right?

I did, I loved Hello Kitty first. And yes, I know that’s a bold, presumptuous statement, and a little bit hipster-esque and snobby, but I don’t care, I stand by my words, I loved Hello Kitty first. You see, every since I was a wee little thing in the 80′s, I loved Hello Kitty, and every birthday, my mother and friends and family would get me hello kitty themed gifts. This was way before Hello Kitty was super popular, Keropi kind of out-shined her for a while in the 90′s, but she was still my favorite.  I’ve had Hello Kitty stickers, notebooks, pens, pencils, games, bags, clothes, stuffed animals, bento boxes, kitchen appliances (including toaster), balloons, themed parties, etc. Basically, a whole load of hello kitty shit. My favorite birthday memories growing up are def. the memories of waking up on the 24th and seeing a bag of Hello Kitty things next to my head on the pillow. Every year, my parents would get me something, even if it was just something small. This year, they changed it up and got me a giant white elephant. Knowing I was sad that they broke tradition, my boyfriend got me a little stuffed Hello Kitty, which was quite sweet. In addition to that, my family put a hello kitty candle on my cake, as evidenced by the picture above (thanks M.V. for the picture).

I thought this was a perfect time to bring up my Hello Kitty obsession since Sephora just rolled out with a whole Hello Kitty line. Like their Tarina Tarintino collaboration, the Hello Kitty line includes make-up, accessories and perfume for us adults, but with a touch of whimsy.  Some of my favorite products for sale, below.

Ok, admittedly I haven’t smelled this, but I love the little Hello Kitty glass bottle with atomizer.

Another cute item for your vanity

I love nail art, even if I suck at doing my own nails. This is pretty cute close-up.

Just be cautious, I haven’t actually used the products or held the above mirror in my hand, it might be super crappy. However, it’s pretty cute to look at, and even though Hello Kitty is kind of played out and everywhere at this point, and I probably wouldn’t actually buy or use any of the products above,  it still holds a special kitty place in my heart.

NYC is freezing today. I mean, really freezing. Freezing to the point that I want that giant brown blanket wrapped tightly around me as I sip caramel hot chocolate and watch amazingly shitty movies at home. Alas, I’m a 9-5er, which means I get to be cold and drink shitty coffee and watch my computer screen. It’s cool though, I plan to wrap myself in a blanket Friday night and unwrap myself on Sunday when I start cooking for my potluck. Cheesy drunken potluck holiday pictures in front of a fake tree to come!

With the first snow of the season, all I can think about is building snowmen, making snow angels, and having snowball fights, even though I’m in my 20′s. Of course, that also means getting myself winter ready with a brand new pair of gloves. I’m really liking the following two pairs off of Anthropologie.

I’m really digging the understated leopard print on these gloves.  It’s just enough leopard to be interesting without dominating your entire outfit. Plus, they look super cozy, like gloves I wore as a child.

The perforated bows on this pair are so cute. They’re pretty and yet still durable enough to withstand massive snowball making and sledding.

I used to be a fan of leather gloves, but this winter I’m looking for a pair that can easily fit into my pockets and can handle snowball fights and the like. Ok, so I probably won’t end up having any snowball fights, but you never know, it’s on my to-do list, and I always get that done. (Any of my friend’s reading this and snickering, keep your comments to yourselves. My to-do lists get done..eventually.)

Anyway, one of the most important things to buy along with a bike, especially in the city, is a helmet. I bought a pretty standard slate colored helmet by a brand that I cannot remember right now. However, if I’m looking to upgrade, some of the following helmets would definitely be on my radar, especially for cute winter city riding ( just kidding dad, I’ll only be riding in the park..)

This may be a motorcycle helmet, but the leopard print is too cute to pass up. I actually stumbled across this on overstock.com, but the helmet still isn’t really cheap at around $60. Either way, pretty cute!

The helmet cover above is absolutely amazing for winter riding in style. It looks a little bulky, but I’m absolutely in love. I’m pretty sure it’s sold, and the blog doesn’t look like it’s getting many updates, but it’s definitely inspiring me to get something a little cooler than the plain old gun metal gray helmet I have.

Paris Herringbone helmet

Yakkay makes some really cool helmets that don’t look like helmets at all. The helmets are covered by really cute hats that would make riding in the Winter pretty stylish. But don’t be fooled, the helmet that resides underneath is actually a really good quality helmet, so you’re getting all of the style without sacrificing the safety.

Also, once you have your helmet, pretty sure you’re going to want to upgrade with this cool ass vintage looking horn. Or is that just me?
