It’s the first weekend of the New Year (not including New Year’s Eve/Day Weekend) and there’s tons going on. Of course, it’s also going to be snowing and we already know that a certain Mayor doesn’t know how to handle that, so you might all be stuck inside. If you can get your butt outside during the chaos when an inch of snow terrorizes the city, hit up some of these fun events going on around our beloved Brooklyn.
Friday
Friends of Dorothy: An Oz Cabaret
Friday, 7:00 pm, $20
Galapagos Art Space, 16 Main Street
Re-imagined into a modern day urban fairytale, Friends of Dorthy is a fringe festival play that features burlesque, aerialists, and a “Wicked Bitch” playing the part of our favorite wicked witch of the west. The $20 ticket also gets you admission to the gay dance party Gumbo following the show.
Saturday
CHERYL: EUROCHERYL
Saturday, 11:00 pm, $10
The Bell House, 149 7th St, Brooklyn
I’ve never been to one of Cheryl’s crazy dance parties (although I was at the Bell House’s front room during one of them) I’m sure with enough alcohol in your system and glow sticks in your mouth, you can have a pretty good time. Since Cheryl moves over to Europe this January to infect and infest the lives of European teens everywhere, get your ass to the Bell house dance floor this Saturday night to celebrate the kick off of their tour right in our own backyard. Once you’re drunk enough, be sure to get some snaps in Bell House’s photo booth to commemorate the night.
Sunday
No Pants Subway Ride
Sunday, 3:00 pm SHARP
Old Stone House
Although this isn’t specifically a “Brooklyn” event, they do have a Brooklyn meeting place and I had to include it. The no pant’s subway ride is billed as a “participatory” event and asks that you only show up if you’re willing to take your pants off on the subway and keep a straight face while doing so. It’s a global event, throngs of people will be taking their pants off on the subway all around the world. Of course, I think it’s kind of a drag that they’re doing it in Winter, but I guess that’s the point too. If you like being cold with your pants off amongst tons of strangers on the dirty NYC subways, then this is the event for you.
