Brooklyn Love: Hello Weekend 12/3 12/5

During the week, I’m always looking forward to, and planning, all of the amazing things I’m going to do over the weekend. You know, check out that pop-up shop, go to that amazing burlesque show, watch that new documentary, listen to that band, explore that farmer’s market, get brunch at that restaurant, etc. Then the weekend comes, and I drink till 7 am and lazily sleep till 4 pm. With the winter months coming, I don’t want to fall into that rut, where weekends consist of partying and sleeping. Instead, I’m starting a new weekly Friday post that will feature my love for Brooklyn and what it has to offer (and give me a handy list of things to do/review over the weekend.) Check out the list after the jump.

FRIDAY

Pie for Dinner
Friday, open till 7pm
Four & Twenty Blackbirds, 439 3rd Avenue (cash only)

Ok, so this isn’t actually a special “event” or anything, but I can’t think of a better (or easier) Friday night dinner after a grueling week at work. It’s already freezing outside in Brooklyn, and what better way to combat the chilly temperatures than with a piece of Salted Caramel Apple pie or Bourbon Sweet Potato. If you’re looking for something a bit more special, check out their “Pie for Dinner” series, a monthly (or so) dinner held in the shop featuring sweet and savory pies and complimentary beer. Unfortunately, their December and January dates are already sold out, but check back in January for pending February and March dinners.

Burlesque at the Beach
Friday, 9pm
Sideshows by the Seashore, Coney Island, 1208 Surf Avenue ($15 cover)

After stuffing your face with pie, why not head to Coney Island for some good old raunchy Burlesque fun. Join Jenny C’est Quoi and Lefty Lucy of Storybook Burlesque for this week’s theme, the Bible Show. But be warned, if you’re easily offended, this might not be the show for you. If you’re not, you’ll have a fantastic time sitting in the Freak Show Bleachers, watching all of the comedic Burlesque. If you’re adventurous, get there early and sit in the front row, you’ll have a better chance of being pulled on stage for some naughty and hysterical fun.

Saturday

3rd Ward Handmade Holiday Craft Fair
Saturday, noon to 6 pm
3rd Ward, 195 Morgan Ave, FREE

This Saturday, 3rd Ward teams up with Brooklyn Based for a massive indoor holiday craft fair featuring over 100 NYC vendors, specialty cocktails, live music and more. I’m looking forward to some cheap intelligentsia coffee (spiked of course) and amazing, local wares. I know it’s the holidays, and we’re supposed to give and whatever, but how am I supposed to control my spending (on myself) when they’re trying to get me drunk with delicious cocktails?

2010 Beard and Mustache Competition
Saturday, 6pm
Club Europa, 98 Meserole Ave at Manhattan Ave ($15 advance, $20 at the door)

After getting your shopping on at 3rd ward, check out some mustachioed men at Club Europa, battling for top honors in six categories, including Moustache, Recession Beard and Fake Beard (Fake beard? Can I throw on some santa beard and enter too?) The best part? All proceeds benefit The Feal Good Foundation, a non-profit organization spreading awareness and creating a network of advocacy for 9/11 First Responders and the health issues they now face.

5 years of Bullshit- The Brooklyn Ski Club 5-Year Anniversary
Saturday, 8pm
Don Pedro’s, 90 Manhattan ($6 cover)

Admittedly, I’ve never been to a Brooklyn Ski Club show (I know, I know), but what better introduction than their 5 year anniversary soiree. Come for a night of live music, cheap beer (the website says they might even have an open bar) and drunken shenanigans.

Sunday

Brunch At Sette
Sunday, all morning/afternoon
207 7th Avenue ($18 pre-fixe)

Sette is the best bang for your buck brunch in Brooklyn. It might sound a little pricey at first, but for $18, you get unlimited (and delicious) Bloody Mary’s and Sparkling Wine Cocktails, Homemade Raisin Walnut Focaccia, a first and second course, and coffee or tea. The place is great for groups, the food is so delicious and the staff is super sweet. I’ve come here as an omnivore and as a vegan, and found enough to eat both times. Spend the entire morning (or day, Sette Brunch goes well into midday) with your closest friends exchanging stories about the night before.

Actually, after that Brunch, you might need the rest of Sunday to recover. If it’s not freezing, I would definitely recommend a stroll along the Promenade in Bay Ridge. A very pretty way to work off all of that food.

Hey friends that are reading this!
Sette Brunch Date Sunday?
