Sometimes I forget about John Galliano’s brilliance and it takes something like his recent Men’s SS 2011 runway to remind me what an incredible mind this man has. Every season, he delivers collections so on point, so Galliano, and somehow, so fresh. This recent collection evokes memories of childhood for me. Memories of being at a single digit age and discovering Galliano in old Vogues, and discovering Charlie Chaplin at the same time. I have a great memory of being quite small and dragged to a very, very long movie about Charlie Chaplin’s life by my parents. I couldn’t really stay interested because of its length, but I still remember thinking Charlie Chaplin was such an amazing character and performer. Using Chaplin as inspiration, Galliano’s collection is ridiculous, and beyond the collection, his runway shows are always incredibly theatrical.
