Why do I only post Cult Films you ask? Because I love them.
The last time I saw this film, I secretly stole it from my brother who had it on VHS. I was pretty young and I knew that I shouldn’t have been watching it, but I watched it anyway. It was insane and some parts were really difficult to watch. But, there were also parts that I found beautiful and interesting and important and I think that it’s something I’ll be re-watching soon, and hopefully the message and messages behind the film will become clear to me now that I’m older.
The film is basically a 113 minute acid trip. Made in 1973, you’ll think everyone in this movie must have been on some serious drugs when this was written and filmed. But actually, they were. The director, Alejandro (who was also the actor, producer, set designer, costumer designer..etc etc) was on acid when writing the script, and supposedly gave his cast mushrooms during critical scenes (although I wholeheartedly believe they were on something much stronger).
Check out some of my favorite psychedelic stills below but be warned that the trailer I’ve included is Not Safe For Work, and not entirely like the stills at all. Honestly, you might regret watching this movie if you see it or you might think it’s just stupid, or it will change your life.

Personally I love the fact that you only post about cult films. I find that I have only been exposed to mainstream movies – it’s always nice to have the chance to disover something new. I must admit, this film looks quite trippy.
So I used to own both the Holy Mountain and El topo, but somebody named sook borrowed and lost both films… The best part of The Holy Mountain was the 35 minutes that the movie intricately detailed the conversion of shit into gold; alchemy at its best! I never did get to watch el topo…
LIZZZZ I want to watch this with you *pouts*
Joy- I just ordered El Topo actually. I haven’t seen it yet, but I expect I’ll like it (or at least appreciate it) I really dig his style of film making.
Elina- I think I saw this film three times, the middle time with you, so you will def. be included. I just ordered the DVD because I don’t want to see it on VHS. Holy Mountain/El Topo Viewing Party in a couple weeks?
Clare- Not many people I know have seen this movie. I love finding others!
Oh my god, we watched this film in a pub on a film night once and it felt like the longest film in the World, it was very, very strange but looked amazing. I’ve never spoken to anyone else who’s seen it so this was a good post!

umm plz dont rewatch this without me. i think at least one of the other original viewers should be there. haha. i remember watching this. it was unbelievable.
I would definitely describe this movie as a bad acid trip if anything. It is wholly intriguing and a bit disturbing. Do you like El Topo?
