Minx Nails Birthday Treat

A while back, while reading a blog post by the lovely Wendy Brandes, I discovered the glamorous world of Minx nail art. I was pretty sold and smitten, but at around $55, it just seemed too expensive to get on a random afternoon. Then, last week, another post popped up on Wendy Brandes‘ blog and with my birthday coming up, I knew I had to do it. So, I booked an appointment not far from Medusa Salon ( the cutest little place, it’s adorned with pin-up girls, and my stylist is a tattooed singer in a Rockabilly band) where I was getting my hair done after.

The salon I booked my appointment at was pretty cute and the girls inside were super sweet. I picked out the leopard print Minx, and once I was done, my manicurist was ready for me. The entire process took about 45 minutes but it wasn’t always smooth sailing. A few times, I had to ask her to fix little bits that she was leaving at the end of my nail, and when she told me I was done, I noticed I had an air bubble on one nail, and another was completely crooked. However, she was really nice about fixing it.

Now, here is the problem. Although I have read that Minx can stay on up to two weeks, I’m not naive and I know that isn’t going to happen. However, on the Minx site, it says that the nails should stay 4-5 days. My nails started lifting that same day, and by the next day were looking pretty bad. I still have the Minx on (I’m on day 3) but I’m probably going to have to peel them off, as two of my nails are looking pretty beat. I really don’t know if it’s the product or the manicurist, but I’m leaning towards the manicurist as it didn’t seem to be going right during the actual manicure. I don’t think I’d do it again as the price is a little steep for a manicure that might only last a night, but it was definitely fun to have on my birthday and I did get quite a few compliments.

Thanks Wendy, I think I'll do that. I'm definitely sure now it was the salon and manicurist, to add to the horrible job they also double charged me and haven't fixed it (after repeated calls) so now I have to issue a report with my credit card company. ugh! Reply

P.S. and to get any loose ones to stick back down, use the heat from a hair dryer to warm up the product, THEN press it back down. But you shouldn't have to do that after a day if the manicurist does her job properly. Reply

My most recent Minx lasted 10 days....The shortest one I had was a week. If yours was peeling after only a day it was most likely the manicurist not being trained properly. Why don't you get in touch with Minx PR at janicemiller at gmail dot com. I'm sure Janice can arrange to make sure manicurists are properly trained. Reply

Your ring is gorgeous!!!!! Been thinking about trying Minx a well, but not it's obvious that I'll have to find a good manicurist. Reply
